Google Adsense is the most popular way of making money from your website. It is one of the easiest way to monetize your website.

Setting Up Google Adsense

Step 1 is to get your Google Adsense account by signing up . You can either use existing Google account or create new.

Once you have submitted the application, you will receive an email after some time telling you whether you have passed the first step of the review process. Once you have passed then you can log in to your Adsense account and get your ad code.

Click on the Ads -> Overview menu, here you have two options

  1. By site
  2. By Ad unit

If you select “By site” Google will automatically show ads in all the best places     . All you need to do is click on the Get code

You have to copy the code and paste it into your website header. You can do this if you know how to edit WordPress development or you can simply use header and footer scripts plugin.

Let’s discuss how to add Ads in your sidebar if you don’t want Google to place the Ads automatically.

Select “By ad unit” tab, on the create new ad unit you can choose the ad type. You can select Display ads, In-feed ads or In-article ads. If you are not sure choose the Display ads which is recommended.

Next, you need to give a name for this ad unit and select if you want the ad to be square, horizontal or vertical. You can see the preview of your add. On the right side you need to select the ad size. The best would be to keep it Responsive. Hit create once done.

Copy the code generated into a notepad so that you can paste it later onto your WordPress site.

You need to decide where you want to place the ad on your website. Ads are generally placed in the sidebar. You can add Google Adsense in your sidebar by using widgets.

In your WordPress Admin go to appearance -> Widgets page. Next, drag and drop the Custom HTML widget to the appropriate widget area and paste your Google Adsense code and click save.
